Summertime is here, or better still it's the long awaited vacation. What a pleasure it is to put on that newly purchased beach dress, and head off to the ocean, to soak up the sun rays, and walk on the sand! Just one look at summer dresses reminds one of the vibrant feeling of relaxing on a beach, wearing the ideal beach dress.

Tips for the Young and Young at Heart

For those with more youthful tastes, I interviewed Amy Alexander, Assistant Manager of Urban Women in Calgary. Here's her advice:

The Prairie Look

The peasant top with denim and lace is hot for spring 2002. Ms. Alexander suggests a "designed denim" - for example, a dirty jean. For jewelry try the Vintage and turquoise variety to add spice to your wardrobe.

Stiletto Boots

The "in" boot (I cringe as I think of my tender tootsies) is the Stiletto. And for the slightly more adventurous, Velour track suit a la the singing, acting diva Jennifer Lopez - these things are actually called "Jay Lo suits." They include a bright pink hoodie and flare pants.

Winter clothes tips for boys

The Jacket

A North Face Fleece is very function as well as warm and can be worn at almost any time for men. For the dressier occasions however, it is nice to own a coat that will look good with khakis or a nice pair of jeans.

Pants

For men in 2008, the key pairs of pants are flashy slacks or jeans. Something that can be worn to a bar or to dinner. You don't necessarily have to be "metro" to pull this look off either.

Shoes

This winter, driving moccasins, Simple Shoes and converse sneakers are in. Crew has some wonderful Italian leather driving moccasins that can be worn with cords, jeans or khakis, and are very comfortable. 

Winter clothes for girls

Coats

Decorated and patterned coats are all the rage this winter. Peat Coats, belted trench coats, brocade coats and houndstooth coats, long or short, are all over the runways for the winter season and all over the streets on the most fashionable cities. 

Boots

Riding boots are the new thing for this past fall and throughout the winter. Girls, I know Uggs are comfortable, but when you are going out try to put on a pair of leather riding boots. 

Dressing Up

For those holiday parties, New Year's Eve or a nice dinner out, a modern mini dress will impress guys and girls alike. In bright colors such as fuschia, green or yellow, the mini dress can be very cute. To pull a whole outfit together, add a skinny or thick belt around your middle to accentuate your waist.

Accessories

A good bag is crucial. Look for an impressive clutch, something unique and bedazzled.
